Location & Geology
The project area is located in the Sauerland forestry growth region (municipality of Schmallenberg) at elevations between 400 and 650 meters above sea level. The terrain is characterized by nutrient-rich, deep brown soils and pseudogleys derived from greywacke and clay slate. Thanks to its Atlantic influence, the water supply of the forests is excellent.
- Soil: Nutrient-rich brown soils as well as gleys and fen gleys in areas with waterlogging.
- Climate: Cool, humid low mountain range climate with high precipitation (1,100–1,300 mm).
- Forest stand: A mix of spruce (60–70 years old), older beech stands, and natural succession areas.

Stability through structural diversity
The central objective is the development of climate-resilient mixed forests. Monostructured conifer stands are converted into near-natural, structurally diverse forests to improve resistance to drought and storms. At the same time, timber reserves are systematically increased to maximize CO₂ sink performance. Deadwood, habitat trees, and wet areas are deliberately preserved as habitats to strengthen ecological resilience.
Permanent Satellite Monitoring
In cooperation with Remote Sensing Solutions GmbH (RSS), we monitor all our forests permanently. If a forest fire or deforestation is detected, tokens are immediately locked.
